Did you know that 42% of small business owners have experienced burnout in the past year? And more than half say they feel alone in solving problems and making decisions?
Running a business can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be overwhelming. Between managing finances, contracts, employees, and clients, it’s easy to feel like you’re carrying it all on your own.
That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that the Pro Bono Small Business Clinic is now officially open for small business owners to schedule sessions! When we first thought of the clinic, our goal was simple: to make expert guidance accessible to entrepreneurs who might not otherwise have the chance to get it. And now, after months of preparation, volunteer onboarding, and system setup, we’re ready to help Kansas City’s small business owners get the tailored support they deserve.
What the Clinic Offers
When we first announced the Pro Bono Small Business Clinic, we shared a vision for a free, hands-on resource to help small business owners tackle challenges specific to their business questions and goals, not a generic workshop.
Since then, we’ve connected with an incredible network of volunteer professionals who have brought even more expertise and ideas to the table. Thanks to their input, we’ve expanded the clinic to cover three new areas that strengthen the connection between personal and business growth:
- Investing – Providing insight into how to grow your money and build long-term stability for yourself and your business.
- Personal Finance – Supporting entrepreneurs in managing their personal finances alongside their business goals for a stronger overall foundation.
- Taxes – Helping business owners understand their responsibilities, stay organized, and prepare for filing season with confidence.
These new additions join the clinic’s original service areas:
- Accounting – Understanding your books, managing expenses, and keeping your finances organized
- Banking – Building relationships with lenders and navigating business accounts
- Bookkeeping – Setting up systems to track income, expenses, and cash flow
- Human Resources – Hiring, onboarding, and managing employees effectively
- Insurance – Reviewing coverage and understanding business protection needs
- Legal – Reviewing contracts, forming entities, and staying compliant
- Marketing – Reaching your customers and communicating your value
- Raising Capital – Exploring funding options and preparing to approach lenders or investors
- Zoning & Planning – Understanding local regulations that affect where and how you operate
Together, these service areas provide small business owners with practical, one-on-one guidance from professionals who are ready to meet them where they are and help them move forward with clarity and confidence.
Who It’s For
The Pro Bono Small Business Clinic is open to any small business owner who wants to learn, grow, or get clarity on their next step.
It’s for the entrepreneur working late nights trying to balance the books, the business owner preparing to hire their first employee, the side hustler wondering how to register their business, and the seasoned owner who just wants a second opinion before signing a contract.
Whether you’re just starting out, rethinking your strategy, or planning for long-term growth, the clinic connects you directly with experienced professionals — attorneys, accountants, HR specialists, marketers, and more — who are volunteering their time to help you navigate the challenges of business ownership.
These are the kinds of experts many business owners wouldn’t normally have access to without a significant cost. Through the clinic, that same level of professional guidance is now available completely free of charge, helping entrepreneurs make confident, informed decisions that move their businesses forward.
Book a Session
We’re officially open and booking now! Sessions are held on the first and third Tuesday of every month.
Submit your intake form to tell us a little about your business and what kind of support you’re looking for. Our team will review the information and follow up to learn more. Then, we’ll help you schedule your session with one of our volunteer professionals on an upcoming clinic day.

Our clinic runs on generosity and expertise. We’re proud to already have over 50 volunteers lending their time and skills to support Kansas City’s small business community, and we’re still growing.
If you have experience in accounting, law, HR, marketing, insurance, banking, operations, or any of the areas we serve, we’d love to connect with you. Reach out to us for details on how sessions work, expectations, and the impact you can make.
