On April 24, we gathered with over 100 supporters, partners, and community champions at the iconic Negro Leagues Baseball Museum for Pathway to Possibility, an evening dedicated to celebrating the life-changing impact of financial education during Financial Literacy Month. What started as an evening to reflect on our progress quickly became something much more powerful: a reminder of what’s truly possible when people have access to financial knowledge, opportunity, and support.

Financial Literacy Month is more than a calendar event, it’s a call to action. It’s a reminder that everyone, regardless of age, background, or circumstance, deserves access to the knowledge and tools to take control of their financial future. At Pathway, this mission is at the heart of everything we do, and this night was a reflection of that commitment.

We knew it would be meaningful. But we didn’t realize just how powerful it would be.

Our founder, Peter Mallouk, opened the evening with words of encouragement and belief in the work we do. Theodis Watson, our MC for the evening, brought energy and warmth to every transition. Marisa Martinez, Community Development Advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, delivered a keynote that moved the room and underscored the importance of equitable access to financial education. And our Executive Director, LaTasha Jacobs, closed the night with reflections that reminded us all why this mission matters.

The most unforgettable moments, though, came from the voices of those directly impacted by Pathway:

  • Ebone Elam spoke about our partnership with the Kansas City Housing Authority and the ripple effect it’s having in the community.

  • Antwan Daniels, a chemistry professor at MCC-Kansas City, shared how our adult workshops gave him new tools and new confidence.

  • Jessica Gomes highlighted our partnership with KIPP Legacy High School and the transformational impact financial education is having on students.

Since launching in 2021, Pathway has welcomed more than 4,100 learners, hosted over 300 workshops, and logged more than 650 volunteer hours. We’ve seen a 57% increase in participation, proof that the demand for this work is real, and the impact is growing.
